An oak, grown in Latvia, will be planted in Berlin prior to the exhibition “Green Week – 2015” planned for January

On December 17, precisely a month before the exhibition “Green Week- 2015”, Elita Kuzma, the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia in Germany, Aivars Lapiņš, the counselor of the Ministry of Agriculture in Brussels and Rihards Krastiņš, the board chairman of the foundation the “Fund for Development of Latvia’s Agriculture”, will plant the oak in the territory of the Exhibition ground, Messe Berlin, Germany. The oak, grown in Latvia, will be planted in Berlin to memorialize the participation of Latvia in the International Exhibition for the Food Industry, Agriculture and Horticulture “Green Week – 2015”, as the partner State thus, symbolizing a close relationship between Latvia and Germany.

 

The oak has been grown in Kalsnava arboretum of the stock company “Latvijas valsts meži” from acorns harvested from an oak growing in Kalsnava arboretum and planted in 2007. At present, the oak is 2.25 m tall. To enable the oak to grow huge and powerful, a dowry of Latvia’s soil will be given to the oak, which will help it to strike roots in German soil. This oak that has come from Latvia will remind of toughness, strength, perseverance and working habits of Latvia’s people. Just as the oak will be depicted at Latvia’s exhibition stand as a symbol.

 

Starting its participation in organization of the exhibition “Greene Week – 2015”, Latvia, as the partner State, will have a possibility to demonstrate at the international exhibition a vast assortment of the food, forestry products and crafts produced in Latvia as well as to familiarize visitors of the exhibition with rural tourism opportunities in Latvia.

 

The International Exhibition for the Food Industry, Agriculture and Horticulture in Berlin “Green Week – 2015” is one of the major international food exhibitions in Europe where participants have the opportunity to make new cooperation and trade ties thus, finding new markets for their products both in EU and in third countries. In 2015, in Berlin, more than hundred companies and farms from Latvia will be represented, and they will demonstrate Latvia’s food industry and crafts skills as well as tourism opportunities and forestry sector.

 

At the exhibition, from January 16 to 25, the Ministry of Agriculture together with the foundation the “Fund for Development of Latvia’s Agriculture”, “Latvian Rural Advisory and Education Center, Ltd. and Latvian Institute of Agrarian Economics will organize several events – tasting and sales of products, demonstration of services, and activities, where every visitor will be able to participate.
