Latvia and Georgia will improve cooperation in the sector of agriculture
On Wednesday, November 26, Jānis Dūklavs, Latvian Minister of Agriculture had a meeting with Otar Danelia, Georgian Minister of Agriculture to discuss further trade relations between both the States, regarding the trade in agricultural products and food. After Russia introduced embargo, Latvia’s producers of agricultural products and food are now looking for new markets even more actively. The Minister of Agriculture of Latvia, Jānis Dūklavs emphasized that Latvia’s producers are ready to export various dairy, meat and other products to Georgia.
Whereas, Georgian Minister of Agriculture Otar Danelia pointed out that Georgia would willingly adopt Latvia’s experience in the area of food and veterinary monitoring and education of farmers as well as establishment of cooperatives. Just as, Georgia is interested in Latvia’s experience in cooperation with EU Member States with a view to strengthening economic ties and application of EU regulatory acts.
The meeting resulted in signing by both the Ministers of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministries of Agriculture of Latvia and Georgia that will facilitate cooperation between the Ministries and different sectoral institutions.
The Minister of Agriculture of Latvia, Jānis Dūklavs is visiting Georgia during the official visit to Georgia of the President of State, Andris Bērziņš, from November 25 – 27, 2014.
