On Monday March 25, Armands Krauze, the Minister for Agriculture, will participate in the informal meeting of the EU Ministers for Agriculture and Fishery in Bruges (Belgium) where Member States will discuss the future of the EU fishery and acquaculture, identifying issues to be solved to enable the sector of fishery and acquaculture to operate in complicated conditions. The Ministry of Agriculture considers that problems must be solved at the EU level not only in te sectors of fishery and acquaculture but all over the production and supply chain, including processing of and trade in fishery and acquaculture products. The EU regulation as well as fishery and acquaculture support measures must be balanced in the way which improves competitiveness of EU producers and operators in relation to third country competitors.This would allow to reduce considerably or even overcome the effect of the existing negative geopolitical and economic impact.
Whereas, on Tuesday March 26, in Brussels, the Minister for Agriculture will participate in the meeting of the EU Council of Ministers for Agriculture and Fishery. At the meeting, the EU Ministers for Agriculture will discuss the necessary measures to react quickly and effectively to the current crisis in the sector of agriculture as the EU market situation for agricultural goods is in a difficult situation after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. To be able to respond quickly and effectively to farmers’s concerns and restore their trust, it is necessary to implement a flexible system of rules particularly regarding standards of good agriculture and environment condition as well as to simplify considerably amendment procedures of CAP Strategy Plans, adjusting them to actual situation in Member States and in farmers’ interests.
