Based on the justification provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, the European Commission (EC) today decided to grant emergency aid of 4.2 million euros to Latvian farmers for damages caused by severe spring frosts and intense rainfall at the end of July 2024. The emergency aid will be distributed to farmers whose orchards, potato fields, and other agricultural crops last year were severely affected or significantly damaged by these adverse weather conditions.

Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze stated: "The European Commission's decision to provide emergency financial support is crucial, as the adverse climatic conditions in 2024 had a severe impact on fruit and vegetable farming. The Ministry of Agriculture has already begun working with farmers' non-governmental organizations to ensure prompt distribution of this aid to the affected fruit and vegetable farmers."

The aid is designed to support farmers most severely impacted by the adverse weather, helping to offset economic losses that threaten agricultural stability. The aid will be based on the actual financial damages they have incurred.
