The State LTD “Immovable Properties of the Ministry of Agriculture” (IPMoA), which is the provider of construction, maintenance and operation structures of the State amelioration systems and amelioration systems of national significance, has signed the first five contracts regarding the restoration of the protective dams of the State amelioration system. Project implementation is administered by the Rural Support Service (RSS). Two renewable protective dams are located in the municipality of Mārupe – the Ratnieku-Biteslejas polder protective dam and the Straupciema polder protective dam, two are located in the region of South Kurzeme – the Bernātu polder protectiv edam and the Bārta right bank protective dam and water drain. One project in Jelgava municipality – Auce polder protective dam.

The contracts concluded stipulate that the renewal of all five protective dams and drains is to be completed by 30 June 2026, with a total of almost EUR 9.05 million for this work.

IPMoA has submitted a project  application  to the RSS for restoration of the Ogre-1 polder protective dam in the city of Ogre, the application is being evaluated.

Anti-flood measures are expected to be carried out at a total of 21 national amelioration systems facilities - eight pump stations, 12 protective dams and one channel. All planned restoration and reconstruction works at flood prevention sites of national significance must be completed by the end of June 2026, and the total amount allocated is EUR 32.9 million from the Recovery Fund money and EUR 6.9 million from the State budget of Latvia. All the work will be done in IPMoA.
